Cosmetic Dentist in Flowood, MS

Dr. Paul Riley is the only board certified TMJ and orofacial pain specialist in private practice in the state of Mississippi. His board certification and diplomate status in the American Board of Orofacial Pain (www.abop.net) are regulated by the American Board of Dental Specialties (www.dentalspecialties.org). In addition, Dr. Riley is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. (www.aaop.org).

Following his graduation from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Dr. Riley began a career in general dentistry. Soon thereafter, due to his expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ disorders, he was invited to join one of the few practices in the United States, limited to the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

As the only doctor in private practice in Mississippi with board certification specifically in the field of orofacial pain, Dr. Riley has had the opportunity to evaluate and treat literally thousands of patients, many suffering from the most severe jaw pain, facial pain, and headaches imaginable. Referring dentists frequently request Dr. Riley’s assistance and advice regarding the dental treatment of these patients, such as how to establish the correct bite for complex dental procedures. This need to work closely with referring dentists of Jackson, MS and surrounding areas of the Magnolia State prompted the transition of Dr. Riley’s practice to its present form of a combination of general dentistry and TMJ/orofacial pain.

In addition to his experience and expertise in the TMJ field, Dr. Riley is a pioneer in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in Mississippi, having inserted the prototypes of oral appliances for sleep apnea as early as 1988. On behalf of an established, hospital-based sleep laboratory, Dr. Riley has presented multiple annual lectures to the general public during National Sleep Awareness Week on the use of oral appliances for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Riley has presented numerous lectures on the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders to various audiences of dentists, physicians, physical therapy students, otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) residents, and neurology residents. In addition, he has served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Dentistry. Dr. Riley and his wife, Candy, have two sons, Cole and Ryan who are presently attending dental school.
